Physical Therapy without Referral

As of November 1st you no longer will need a referral to be treated by a Physical Therapist!

For years Texas has been behind the curve on direct access, being the 49th state to adopt a direct access policy. Finally, as of November 1st house bill 29 went into complete effect, allowing patients to seek treatment from a Physical Therapist without a referral from physician or other healthcare practitioners.

This is a huge win for Texans! It decreases the barrier to seeking treatment and decreases the delay and expense of having to see a physician first. Now when injury occurs or chronic pain resurfaces, you can now go directly to their Physical Therapist and be treated for up to 2 weeks before needing a referral.

Almost all physical issues that patients have can be diagnosed and treated with skilled manual therapy, neuro re-education of muscles, and an exercise program that can be done at home. For some they will achieve their goals within this time frame. However, in cases that are going to require a longer course of treatment, your Physical Therapists will be able to identify that within a visit or two and can help you in the process of obtaining a physician referral. One simple method to consider when a referral is needed is to speak with a "telehealth" physician.

If you have been dealing with pain or have noticed limitations in your activities and have been putting off seeking treatment due to the hassle of obtaining a referral from your physician. There has never been a better time than now to address these issues!
