MEET OUR PROVIDERS

Dr. Jake Chase, PT, DPT, COMT

For more than 10 years Jake has been helping his patients/clients to to achieve their physical goals. Whether that goal was to improve performance, change body composition, or to effectively recover from an injury. Jake has been able to help thousands reach these goals and to live a healthier more fulfilling lifestyle!

Jake began his journey to help others as a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). This provided him the basis by which his knowledge of anatomy and physiology would be built. His passion was sparked immediately by witnessing the success of his clients and the overwhelming gratitude he received. He realized that in order to better serve his clients he would have to gain as much knowledge as possible. He started by attaining his B.S. in Kinesiology and Movement Science. With the knowledge he attained while earning his B.S. the quality of his training noticeably improved. Jake quickly found himself in the "head trainer" role and eventually the "fitness director" role of the facility. While working in this role, Jake was able to offer some of the highest quality training to patient who were without orthopedic co-morbidities. However, he recognized that there was still a gap in his knowledge when it came to training clients who suffered from orthopedic issues. He had a decent understanding of injury prevention but lacked the understanding for how to safely and appropriately recover from injury. He decided to return to school, this time to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and to become a licensed Physical Therapist. For a few years Jake worked exclusively with patients, treating their pain with hands on manual therapy and exercise. Again his passion drove him to quickly advance and he once again he found himself in a leadership role as a clinic director of an outpatient orthopedic office.

After some time working exclusively with injured patients to return them to function he began to see the short-fallings of traditional physical therapy. He would help patients return to their baseline basic activities, but due to limitation in insurance he was unable help them improve further. He felt stifled and unable to utilize his background as a fitness professional to the fullest extent.

Jake's background gave him unique perspective of rehabilitation and fitness that is very different from the traditional. He views rehabilitation and fitness performance as a continuum that starts with debilitation and ends with peak performance. And no matter where you begin on the continuum the end point is always the same. It was by this philosophy that Chase Physical Therapy & Wellness was created. No longer would patients be limited to "good enough" or have their recovery constrained. No longer would patients be treated by tech's rather than the doctor or be sharing their time with others. Every patient would get the undivided attention of their doctor and a completely individualized program, the way Jake had been accustomed to while providing fitness training. He incorporates vigorous exercise into his rehabilitation programs ,when it is appropriate, and doesn’t subscribe to a notion that the body is fragile or the belief in limiting activities out of fear of further injury. Instead he focuses on the resilience and adaptability  of the body and helps others to return to the things that they love doing!

"Too often I hear statements such as "I was told that I can’t ever (squat, run, lift, etc) again" with no evidence to support these claims. The human body is much more resilient and stronger than many patients and even health care professionals realize. It is my mission to change the notion that the body is fragile and that an injury automatically disqualifies you from an activity. I seek to not only build strength in my patients but also the confidence that they can control their pain, improve their function, and return to the things they love to do!"

Alexis Chase, RD, LDN

Alexis developed a strong passion for nutrition after two personal life experiences of her own. The first came from her personal experience with fitness. As she became more interested in fitness she also became more competitive. Early on in her fitness journey she realized the impact that nutrition had on her performance and body composition. She began to pay greater attention to her dietary intake to ensure she was fueling her body with necessary nutrients to participate in competitive races, boot camps, Crossfit, and complete her first a half and full marathon.  During this time she also became a Certified Personal Trainer so that she could inspire others to achieve their fitness goals as she had.

The second impactful experience was when she began to understand that a nutritious diet was not only needed for body composition and performance ability, but also for general daily health. It was through her grandfather that she learned the importance of how nutrition and the vital role it played in the human body during states of metabolic stress and disease. At the time she did not comprehend the extent of her grandfather's health complications, but later she began to understand how chronic conditions such as diabetes, renal failure, and hypertension all which he suffered from were dependent on a proper diet. The combination of her own personal experiences with nutrition, and the importance she later learned from her grandfather's health motivated her to become a licensed Registered Dietitian. She began her education after being accepted into The Coordinated Program at The University of Illinois at Chicago. Following completion of her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition she began her career as a Clinical Dietitian in Chicago, IL with a focus in the outpatient setting including pre-diabetes, weight management, and diabetes which allowed her to integrate her passion for fitness with nutrition. After relocating to Austin she continued to gain experience as a Clinical Dietitian throughout multiple settings including hospitals, schools, and a long term acute care facility. As a licensed Registered Dietitian with 5 years experience in a variety of settings, Alexis has gained an extensive amount of knowledge and experience within the field of nutrition and dietetics.

A message from Alexis: "I believe that nutrition can be a complicated topic. Not only because of the media and our ever changing food trends. But more importantly because nutrition and medicine will continue to advance. It is my goal to ensure that you are given safe and evidenced based nutrition recommendations. As your dietitian I will be there to motivate you, educate you, and help you make long term lasting changes, not short term fixes."
